Wednesday Lenten Service Series
Every Wednesday Trinity will offer opportunities for reflection and worship in these days before Easter. Also this year, Wednesday Noon Devotions will focus on “THE PASSION OF CHRIST IN THE GOSPEL OF MATTHEW.” This is a time of scripture reading, hymns, prayer and reflection for those who cannot attend the evening Lenten service or prefer to attend a noon devotion time, or would like to attend two Wednesday devotion and worship times this Lenten season!
The evening services will be preceded by a meal, served at 6:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall. The evening theme will be "CHRIST ON TRIAL." Christ most certainly WAS on trial. Two thousand years have come and gone since Caiaphas and Pilate passed judgment on Jesus in Jerusalem. And though the verdict passed down at that trial was a miscarriage of justice, the result fulfilled God’s purpose: to save the world by sacrificing his Son. Christ most certainly IS on trial. His saving act, his being in the world, his radical teachings all demand a reaction. Every human heart must wrestle with questions like: Who is this Christ? Is he who he claims to be? If so, what does he mean for me and my living? Christ demands a reply. Daily, Christ is on trial.
"Christ On Trial" is a series of Lenten worship services in which court is in session to determine who Christ is.
- March 10 – “Jesus, Disturber Of The Peace!” Is it true? Prominent Jewish leader Nicodemus weighs in.
- March 17 – Evidence that Jesus is a self-elected “Judge and Jury” is offered by a woman caught in adultery.
- March 24 – Are charges of cannibalism true? A young man named John is called to the stand.
Christ On Trial examines evidence that demands a verdict: Who is this Jesus…for you?
Ministry Opportunities
DID YOU KNOW...that we have a ministry to homebound members that involves delivering CD’s of our worship services and worship announcements on your own time during the week? We could use your help in this! Contact Pastor Menke for more information.
THE HANDBELL TEAM NEEDS YOU...Trinity's Handbell Team is seeking two more players! We need two more people to fill out our handbell team, can you help us? We meet to practice at 6:45 on Thursday evenings during the school year. Please contact Joe Gastler for more information (or phone 281-797-8407)
YARED WOLDE FUND...Thanks so very much to those who’ve made donations and pledges to support Yared in our goal of providing him an education. We (Pastor Jim and Alden Smith) met this week to consider how realistic it will be financially to bring Yared to America. While we are still hoping for some more pledges to come in, we determined that with your support and the support of others, we believe that, by the grace of God, it will be possible. Oddly enough, we anticipate the cost of brining Yared to go down slightly once he has finished his two years of study at MCC, which will enable him, Lord willing, to be accepted to Baylor. Our offerings for Sunday School will be used for Yared Wolde. Thank you in advance for contributing.
Children's Ministry
- Vacation Bible School - We are trying to get started planning for Vacation Bible School (VBS) this summer. If you are interested in helping with any part of VBS this summer, please contact Karen Menke or call Karen at 254-655-4173. You may also call the church office and leave your name and phone number. We need crafts, snacks, games, coaches who will lead small groups of about 5 kids, teachers, kitchen help to plan meals for the 5 nights, registration people, etc.
- We are still looking for subs for Sunday School and volunteers to help in the nursery. If you have a “heart” for helping children grow in the love, life and Word of God in Christ, please contact Karen Menke or call Karen at 254-655-4173. Thanks for being willing to serve.

Trinity will be hosting an Easter egg and cross hunt on Saturday, April 3 from 10:00 – 11:30 am. This event is open to the public and a great way to invite people to our church. Children from toddler through grade 6 are invited to participate, and bring their friends and neighbors. Everyone can be involved:
- Bring your children and their friends
- Invite your neighbors
- Volunteer to help supervise the children in their hunt
- Fill plastic eggs for the hunt
We need your help to fill the eggs with candy. Please, no chocolate or candy with nuts. Pick up the bags of empty eggs at the back of the church and return no later than March 28. Phone the church office (772-4225) if you have questions. If you would like to volunteer to help on April 3, please contact Glenn Hurta (848-2503 or 715-0396). This is a great outreach to our neighbors in a fun atmosphere.
Summer Camp
SUMMER CAMP 2010 – COME JOIN US AT CAMP THIS SUMMER! Camp Lone Star’s 2010 theme is “Mighty to Save,” and is based on Zephaniah 3:17 which says: “The LORD your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with his love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” Programs for kids age 5 - 18.
Register by March 15th for the best prices. Questions? Call 1-800-362-2078 or register online at www.lomt.com. You may also find information sheets on the table by the bulletins and announcements.
LWML Collects Health Kits for World Relief
People who must flee their homes quickly often do not have time to pack essential items. Health kits can help refugees maintain personal hygiene while living in exile. Items may also contribute to a new start for those who can return home. The items needed for the kits are:
- One hand towel, dark color recommended
- One washcloth, dark color recommended
- One bath-size bar (4-5 oz .) of soap, any brand, in its original wrapping
- One adult-size toothbrush in its original packaging
- One comb, wide tooth preferred, remove packaging
- One metal nail file or nail clippers with file attached, remove packaging (do not substitute cardboard emery boards for the file)
- Six Band-Aids (or similar brand), preferably 1/2” to 3/4”; secure together with a rubber band
Do not add other items or leave out any of the items listed. All items should be new and in good condition. Wrap small items in the washcloth; wrap washcloth and remaining items in the towel and tie securely with ribbons or yarn. Do not enclose the kit or any of its contents in plastic bags. Note: In July 2007, guidelines for LWR health kits were changed to no longer include toothpaste. You may bring your completed kits to the church.
Women's Ministry Opportunities
“Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16
- The Tuesday afternoon Women's Bible Study meets on Tuesday afternoon's at 1:30 p.m. We will be using the book "A Woman of Faith", by Dee Brestin, as our guide for this study. Based on the book of Esther, A Woman of Faith helps women recognize God's hand--not only in Esther's life but in their own lives. In this dynamic eight-chapter study, participants learn that as God led Esther, they too can be led as a Woman of Faith. Dee Brestin is a bestselling author and international speaker who longs to make the Word clear to today's woman. If you have any questions please contact Rieta Doty at 751-0933; or Carol Trantham at 848-4556, or call the church office at 772-4225. Any woman who is interested is invited and encouraged to join this small group for prayer, study, and lots of supportive conversation! We meet at church.
- We need quilters to come out and help. We'll be working again on Monday, March 8 from 9:00 to 1 or 2 PM. Bring your scissors and willing hands. Tops have been sewed together but we need to assemble each one with filler and back. Then they are just tacked. Enjoy the fellowship too.
- LWML SPRING WOMEN’S EVENT COMING UP!! - Women of Value Celebration on Saturday, March 13, 2010, sponsored by the Central Texas Zone LWML. The event will be hosted by St. Mark Lutheran Church in Waco. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.
- Women's Renewal Retreat March 19-21, 2010 Women are invited to spend a weekend at Camp Lone Star praising, singing, canoeing, hiking, and studying God's Word. The event, March 19-21, 2010, will be led by Mrs. Mary Doering, wife of Pastor Al Doering at Christ the King, Kingwood. She will share her insights into living as a Christian woman in today's world. Take some time out to breathe with fellow women and encounter God as He delights, quiets, and rejoices over you! You may register online, or visit www.LOMT.com to print and mail/fax a registration flyer. Call Camp Lone Star at 800-362-2078 if you have any questions.
Soap Collection
SOAP - it is time to collect bars of soap for Lutheran World Relief. Bars should be in their original wrapper. Boxes will be at the entrance of the church and the fellowship hall. We'd like to see everyone bring one bar. Can you imagine not having soap to clean your hands or your body? Let's share it with someone who can really use it.
Adult Bible Hour Connections
"The Prodigal God." This six week series will raise questions about how we should live in light of God's superabundant, surprisingly surpassing, “outstripping-all-our-expectations” love. We too often respond to him by proffering our good works as a way to get leverage over God, who is our true Father and truest Friend. Let's reconsider, because when God invites us to share in the banquet, we can forget and should forget what we've done or not done, and come to his table, instead. Meeting in the Fellowship Hall and led by Dr. Alden Smith.
"Triune God" - Discover what God reveals in His Word for us to believe about Him, including His nature and attributes, His works, and His tri-personal essence. Led by Robert Robbins in the Conference Room #119.
A Bible study of The Ten Commandments, the heart of God for every person and every relationship, an adult class led by Lisa Smythe, is meeting upstairs, in room 211, next to the bridal room.
STARTINGMARCH 14 – “Lutheran Christianity: What’s It All About?” Led by Pastor Menke in Room 220, 2nd floor.

Ensure a Boost for Haiti Relief
Robinson I.S.D. is participating in a special project for Haiti Relief that I thought some of you might be interested in participating in. Dr. Craig Hobar, a plastic surgeon in Dallas, has committed his mission organization called LEAP to providing 12 months of surgical assistance to Haiti. Please visit their website for more information. The list of needed items for their mission is long, but one request they have is for the protein drinks Boost and Ensure. These drinks are being requested for the fat and protein content that is desperately needed to nourish the bodies of those who are pre-/or post surgery status. The need is critical. In one day, Dr. Hobar alone performed 16 amputations. The next time you visit the grocery store…. Remember to “Ensure a Boost” for Haiti Relief! Drop them off at the church, and I will forward your donations to the Leap Foundation in Dallas. Please continue to remember to pray daily for the people of Haiti and for all of those who are giving of their time and talents to serve in Haiti at this critical time. Thank you in advance for helping out with this particular cause. By contributing even a small thing like this… we can help so much!!
Trinity Member Accepted to Seminary
A “son” of Trinity and Alden and Diane Smith’s son, Harry Smith, has been accepted to attend Concordia Seminary in St. Louis this fall! We are thankful that God is blessing Harry’s desire to pursue the pastoral ministry in our church.
Did you know that we have a Scholarship Fund that has been established to assist those pursuing church work vocations with the very high costs of graduate, post-graduate and seminary education? We do! If you would like to assist Harry and his family by contributing to this fund, you may make your check out to “Trinity” and designate it for the “Scholarship Fund” on the memo line.
Stephen Ministry
Have you heard about Stephen Ministry? Stephen Ministers are trained “listeners” who spend time one-on-one with a person who is going through a difficult time who might need a little extra support. Are you a good listener? Do you have a little bit of time each week that you would be willing to spend with someone who is going through a crisis? Stephen Ministry is looking for new “ministers”! Training is provided, and ministry support is readily available. If you would be interesting in becoming involved in this type of ministry at Trinity, please contact Pastor Jim or Carol Kuehl (881-5851 evenings).
